My name is Jameelah Lashley, and I am a member of APWU Local 1078 in Raleigh, NC. I’ve worked for the United States Postal Service for 17 years. As an expeditor, I coordinate between USPS employees and drivers to help deliver America’s mail, and I love what I do! I love serving my community and appreciate all of the opportunities my union gives me to better serve our members.

68th Annual Convention Coming to Wilmington, September 10-12th

Our 68th Annual Convention will be held at the Hotel Ballast by Hilton in our state’s charming “Port City” of Wilmington, September 10-12th, 2025. Guest speakers this year will include SEIU President April Verrett, UNITE HERE President Gwen Mills, and Governor Josh Stein! This will be the final convention with President MaryBe McMillan, who has announced that she is retiring after serving 20 years as an officer of our state fed and will not seek reelection this September. Come celebrate all we have accomplished under Pres. McMillan’s leadership and elect a new president and executive board for the future!

I am writing to share news. After 20 years as an officer of the NC State AFL-CIO, I have decided to retire and will not seek re-election at our convention in September. It has truly been the honor of my life to serve our members and work with such a dedicated group of leaders in the fight for economic justice.

2025 Legislative "Crossover" Report

May 8th was the crossover deadline in the North Carolina General Assembly. By that date, nearly 1800 bills had been introduced in the House or Senate. Although there are exceptions, bills must have passed out of one of the two legislative chambers and “crossed over” to the other chamber to remain alive for consideration. We tracked hundreds of the bills that were introduced and worked in one way or another on dozens. This report mentions first some of the important bills that were not even given consideration, then some of the good bills that made the deadline, and, finally, two troublesome bills that passed the deadline.
