NC State AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer MaryBe McMillan renews call for North Carolina Republicans to Withdraw Support for Donald Trump
On the heels of last night’s debate and with the start of Early Voting, the North Carolina State AFL-CIO released the following statement from Secretary-Treasurer MaryBe McMillan again calling on Governor Pat McCrory and Senator Richard Burr to withdraw support for Donald Trump
(Raleigh, NC, October 20, 2016) Donald Trump is manifestly unfit to be president. From the beginning, his campaign has been centered on inciting hate and fear of those who are different than he is. He has insulted a long list of people, including our country’s leaders, veterans, women, immigrants and working people. Last night he denigrated our democracy itself.
Faced with plummeting polls, Donald Trump is now attempting to undermine our democracy with dangerous and baseless rhetoric of voter fraud. His refusal to agree to a peaceful transfer of power by accepting the results of the election is indeed horrifying and should not be taken lightly.
People work in unions to bring a measure of democracy to the workplace so we can live a better life. If Gov. Pat McCrory and Sen. Richard Burr continue to put their party’s nominee and their own re-election before American democracy itself, working people will hold them accountable the way Americans have done for 240 years – by voting for a better life at the ballot box.
