“Let’s Vote Our Values”: Sunday Before Election Day, National Labor Leader Speaks to Charlotte Faithful About Importance of Voting
Charlotte, NC – National AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Fred Redmond joined faith leaders at St. Paul Baptist Church on Sunday morning to talk to the congregation about the importance of voting. Building on a long tradition of the labor movement and faith communities fighting arm-in-arm to protect the sacred right to vote, Secretary-Treasurer Redmond stressed how critical it is for working people to turn out on Nov. 5. He also spoke about the imperative to elect true leaders who will protect workers’ freedoms and to reject false prophets who claim to be our advocates while voting against our values. This visit was part of a large-scale voter mobilization program that the North Carolina State AFL-CIO has been spearheading to elect pro-worker candidates up and down the ballot by connecting with working people at their job sites, on their door steps, and in their places of worship so all voters feel empowered to make their voices heard.
“We have two days to turn back the leaders with a dangerous agenda of greed and hate and falsehoods and divisiveness,” said AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Fred Redmond. “And we have two days to turn out for leaders who share our values of generosity and love and truth and unity. For leaders who believe that there is inherent worth in each and every person. And who will work with us to create a more inclusive democracy and a more just society. We have no time to lose….Let’s get our friends and family to the polls. Let’s vote our values.”
