RALEIGH (September 2, 2019) -- In keeping with its mission to build a bigger labor movement able to win victories for North Carolina’s working families, the NC State AFL-CIO announced the launch of the NC Union Jobs Board this Labor Day. Visitors to ncunionjobs.com will find a list of unionized employers as well as union trade apprenticeship and training programs in North Carolina, the county or counties where these opportunities exist, and information on how to apply.
“The best way for working people to secure fair wages, quality health care, workplace safety, and a collective voice to improve their jobs remains exercising their freedom to join together and organize a union,” said MaryBe McMillan, president of the NC State AFL-CIO. “But people who want to have the protections of a collectively negotiated union contract can also go to work at an already unionized employer.”
Workers covered by union contracts make more money -- $204 per week more on average -- than their non-union counterparts. They also enjoy better benefits, like employer-provided pensions and health insurance, and have safer working conditions. Public support for unions is at a 50-year high, according to Gallup, and nearly 50 percent of non-union workers say they would vote for a union where they work.
