Commemorating the 95th anniversary of the 19th Amendment in Durham

Women's Equality Day is August 26, the day commemorating the certification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which granted women the right to vote 95 years ago this year.

Join us two days later in Durham to celebrate this momentous occasion with a march and FREE rally organized by our friends at Action NC featuring speakers, performance artists, skits, live music, children's activities, and food trucks!

Join us in downtown Durham, NC for the Women’s Equality March on Friday, August 28, 2015 from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm! We will celebrate the victories for equality that women have won and rededicate ourselves to eliminating all discrimination against women. This year’s theme is “Women’s Equality Through Time.” Participants will gather at 4:30 pm at the Old Durham County Courthouse and march to the Durham Central Park to enjoy a terrific rally including speakers, performance artists, skits, live music bands, tabling, children's activities and food trucks! Read on for more exciting details and information about this and related events! In conjunction with this event, you are also invited to attend a press conference scheduled earlier in the week on August 26, “Women’s Equality Day.” More information will be released on the press conference soon. “Women’s Equality Day” commemorates the certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution granting American women the right to vote in 1920. This occasion has been celebrated since 1973 by Presidential Proclamation after a bill introduced by Congresswoman Bella Abzug. The victory of “Women's Equality Day” will be recognized at our march and rally on Friday, August 28, so join us then to mark this special occasion and take the opportunity to join forces to push forward on eliminating all discrimination against women.
