We're Hiring a Paid Intern for Spring 2027!
North Carolina’s labor federation is looking for young people with imagination, smarts, energy, grit, and the skills and drive to help us build power for working people in this state as a paid intern. Pay is $20/hour. The Spring 2027 internship period runs January 15th to May 14th for about 10 hours per week with opportunities to develop digital media and communications, educational resources, and events to advocate for workers and support organizing. Depending on current projects and your own skill set, you may find yourself:
- designing engaging graphics,
- scripting and producing videos,
- developing educational resources,
- coordinating public events,
- conducting interviews with union members,
- drafting and editing publications and scripting online content,
- researching online
- performing various administrative tasks as needed
Past projects our interns have worked on include:
- Illustrated a coloring book about American labor history
- Scripted a civics education video series
- Illustrated a comic book about workers' rights! (en español)
- Produced dramatic readings of our comic book
- Developed a museum exhibit about NC labor history
- Produced a podcast about NC Labor History
- Helped organize annual Workers' Memorial Day observances
- Helped organize and host statewide virtual town halls
- Translated educational materials into Spanish
- Supported union organizing campaigns
Qualified applicants will:
- be a resident of North Carolina; and
- be in the process of completing their postsecondary education (college or trade); or
- be a recent college or trade school graduate; and
- have dependable Internet access; and
- have reliable transportation; and
- be able to work up to 10 hours a week out of our office in Raleigh*; and
- be willing to sign an employment contract
Well qualified applicants will:
- be able to submit a well-written, concise cover letter and application responses that demonstrate a clear understanding of the labor movement and our mission, familiarity with our work and that of previous interns, and ideas for how they can apply their skills and experience to this work; and
- be able to demonstrate experience, with samples if possible, in developing creative and engaging digital content and other education resources; and
- be experienced users of Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud as well as Microsoft Office and Google Apps.
* Some work may be done remotely, but the ability to work in person is required. While not the only factor, commuting distance is a consideration when weighing applications for an interview.
