Statement on Federal Appeals Court Ruling Striking Down NC’s Voter ID Law

A huge victory for working people who want to hold state lawmakers and Gov. McCrory accountable on Election Day

RALEIGH, N.C. (July 29, 2016) – The North Carolina State AFL-CIO released the following statement from Secretary-Treasurer MaryBe McMillan on the federal appeals court ruling striking down significant provisions of North Carolina’s “Voter ID” law as discriminatory and unconstitutional:

“The U.S. 4th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling striking down North Carolina's discriminatory ‘monster voting law’ is a huge victory for working people across our state who want to hold accountable, in free and fair elections, state lawmakers and a governor who have cut unemployment benefits, denied Medicaid expansion, and passed policy after policy to hurt working families. We will work with our members to get out the vote so that working people's voices are heard loudly on Election Day.”
