SEANC to Protest Chamber's Anti-Reform Seminar
UPDATE! Location Change for Chamber's Anti-Reform Seminar Will Not Stop SEANC Protest
The Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce has moved the location of its anti-health care reform seminar to avoid SEANC's planned protest. However, SEANC has obtained new permits, and the protest will go on as planned at the new location.
Where: Sheraton Raleigh Hotel, 421 S Salisbury St, Raleigh, NC
When: Friday, July 24 from 7:30 to 9:00 AM
Parking: There are two parking decks directly opposite the Sheraton on Salisbury St. The Wake County parking deck is only one block west, on McDowell St. There may also be street parking.
Industry big shots only ones invited to speak at health care forum
The State Employees Association of North Carolina is organizing a protest of a planned health care forum hosted by the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. The only invited speakers are big shots from major health care industry stakeholders - the very groups fighting reform. From SEANC:
The Raleigh Chamber of Commerce has assembled a "Health Care Policy Forum" this Friday at WakeMed's Andrew's Conference Center. The speakers they have assembled for this forum are pulled exclusively from the esteemed members of the insurance and pharmaceutical industries including:
- GlaxoSmithKline's Jack Bailey, senior vice president, Public and Private Institutional Customers and Federal Government Relations
- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina President and CEO Bob Greczyn
- North Carolina Medical Society Executive VP and CEO, Bob Seligson
- North Carolina Hospital Association Sr VP, Hugh Tilson
SEANC believes that the voice of the PEOPLE needs to be heard on these issues. Therefore, we invite you to join us in a demonstration in front of WakeMed this Friday in order to voice our opinions on REAL health care reform. These organizations are paying millions to lobby Congress in order to make THEIR interests prevail over those of the common person. Let's show them what we think!
