Health and Human Services Secretary Sebelius Visits Raleigh!
Roundtable Discussion with Seniors to Discuss Affordable Care Act
Last Tuesday morning, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius took time to sit down with seniors and retirees to talk about the Affordable Care Act at the AARP-Raleigh office. The roundtable discussion was a joint event hosted by the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and the Alliance for Retired Americans (ARA).
More than 40 seniors and retirees heard from Secretary Sebelius and were given a chance to ask questions about parts of the law that concerned them. The North Carolina ARA was represented on the panel by our own Jim Moore (President, NC AFSCME Retiree Club, and NC ARA Board member) and Mary Montford (President, NC APRI, and Assistant Recording –Secretary, NC ARA). Both had a chance to personally meet Secretary Sebelius, along with James Andrews, President, NC State AFL-CIO.
The North Carolina ARA had about a dozen participants that joined the discussion. One such member was Duane Adkinson and his wife Betty. Duane, a retired UAW member, had a chance to share his story with a reporter covering the event. Please click here to hear how important Medicare has been to Duane.
