GOP redistricting plan targets Democratic women
Partisanship, sexism, or both?
It should surprise no one that North Carolina's partisan redistricting process results in the party in power (currently, the Republican Party) drawing district maps less favorable for its opponents.
One way to do that is to put two lawmakers from the other party in the same district, forcing them to compete against each other for a single seat - as was done with Congressmen David Price and Brad Miller.
What was surprising to some observers is the extent to which Republicans in the General Assembly seemed to target Democratic women, specifically.
Is this just partisanship or did Republican leaders go out of their way to reduce the number of Democratic women in the next legislature?
