The coronation of Shadow Governor Art Pope
The power behind puppet Pat McCrory
While Pat McCrory will privately take the Governor's oath of office behind closed doors, locked inside the State Capitol away from the public, McCrory's Puppet Master will be sworn in at a public ceremony as North Carolina's new Shadow Governor and the state's real chief executive. North Carolina's new Shadow Governor, Art Pope, will be inaugurated in public on Saturday at a swearing-in ceremony outside the State Capitol in Raleigh. Even though Pat won the election, we all know the real power resides in the hands of Shadow Gov. Pope.
What: The Shadow Governor's Coronation complete with "judge", "Art Pope," and executive assistant "Pat McCrory," swearing-in ceremony, and an inaugural address from Shadow Gov. Pope himself
When: Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 11:00 AM
Where: Bicentennial Mall (across the street from the State Capitol)
Who: NC Student Power Union, Progress NC, NC State AFL-CIO
According to campaign finance reports, Pope, his family and family business donated nearly $600,000 to the Pat McCrory Committee, the Republican Party and other conservative political groups which helped elect Pat McCrory. In addition, Pope-backed groups including Americans for Prosperity, Civitas Action and Real Jobs NC spent more than $1.4 million on 2012 campaigns in North Carolina - much of that on behalf of Pat McCrory. Pope's return on his investment in McCrory is the new Shadow Governor's ability to wield power behind, in front and all around the throne. Pope, McCrory and Co.'s agenda is clear: public education and services will face massive cuts, and the general welfare of our state will be undermined to benefit the richest few. From voting rights to women’s rights, they want to take us backwards. North Carolina families, students and workers cannot afford this regressive agenda -- and we will not accept it.
