Charlotte area AFL-CIO chapter endorses Rep. Adams for June 7th primary election

Southern Piedmont Central Labor Council, representing thousands of union members in the greater Charlotte area, has endorsed Alma Adams in her bid to continue representing working people in North Carolina's newly redrawn 12th Congressional District. Early voting for the June 7 primary election runs from May 26 to June 4.

In February, a federal court struck down North Carolina's 1st and 12th congressional district maps as unconstitutional racial gerrymanders, forcing Republican state lawmakers to redraw them and causing state elections authorities to postpone congressional primaries until June 7th.

Rep. Adams has been a stalwart defender of working people since before winning election to Congress in 2014, when she served in the state house, earning labor's endorsement every time.

Last year, Congresswoman Adams voted against "fast-track" status for the dangerous Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Rep. Adams has since pledged to vote down the TPP when it comes up for a vote in Congress this year.

NC Supreme Court seat also on June 7th ballot

Rep. Adams won't be the only candidate on the June 7th ballot for voters in the 12th District, who will also decide which two of four candidates in the running for a seat on the state Supreme Court make it to the general election in November. NC State AFL-CIO has endorsed Sabra Jean Faires in that race.
