Add your voice to stop "mystery money" in NC elections
Only sunshine can snuff out that dark money
Who's trying to buy our elections here in North Carolina?
Secret groups are spending millions on political ads, but who's behind the ads?
Candidates are also raising millions, but politicians make it hard to know who's giving them money because of weak reporting laws. That needs to change, and we can do it!
The North Carolina General Assembly has two bills which have passed the state House and are alive in the Senate for consideration in the 2014 short session.
House Bill 918 would require outside groups to disclose to the public within 48 hours whenever they spend or receive $5,000.
House Bill 919 would require candidates for statewide office - as well as PACs and party committees - to file disclosure reports electronically to make it easier for the watchdogs, the press, and the public to follow the money.
Increased disclosure and transparency in elections financing is a bipartisan issue. Being able to follow the money in politics will restore the people's confidence in government - and save our state money!
