"The theme this year, Healing the Community, is a mighty roar and hail throughout our community, state, nation, and world," says state chapter president Mary K. Montford. "It is also the past, present and future essence and mission of the North Carolina Asa Philip Randolph Institute."
From the call letter:
This event is our opportunity to spotlight outstanding contributions of community activists, elected officials and labor leaders who, following Mr. Randolph's legacy, have made strides toward sustaining freedom, social equality and workers rights. Human rights activists and supporters from across the state will come together to celebrate the legacy of A. Philip Randolph.
North Carolina Supreme Court Justice, Michael R. Morgan, will be the keynote speaker. Each day Judge Morgan works to improve the justice system throughout the state of North Carolina and is dedicated to “justice for all” no matter what a person’s location and/or economic stature. He knows and understands that economic justice requires a fair and equitable justice system and works collaboratively with the community to ensure its continuous growth and healing.
This year, the North Carolina A. Philip Randolph Institute will be honoring both Erin Byrd, Executive Director of Blueprint North Carolina, with the Community Leader Award, and MaryBe McMillan, President of the North Carolina State AFL-CIO with the Labor Leader Award. Their continuous contributions and leadership to the local, state and national community and strides toward sustaining freedom, social equality and workers rights follow the legacy of Mr. Randolph.
Proceeds from this event will support voter engagement, voter education, get-out the-vote (G.O.T.V.) strategies and community service programs such as closing the health disparity gap in our community, environmental justice and feeding the hungry initiatives. The North Carolina A. Philip Randolph Institute is a non-partisan, nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization. Our officers, board of directors, and members are committed to increasing volunteerism. The North Carolina State Affiliate solicits your support through sponsorship in the Asa Philip Randolph Souvenir Journal and enjoying an evening of celebration and dining.
