Workplace Safety at Issue in Upcoming Town Hall with North Carolina Labor Commissioner Josh Dobson

Online only, Sept. 28th from 6:30-8pm, via Zoom and Facebook Live

[RALEIGH] Join the NC State AFL-CIO for a North Carolina Worker Safety Town Hall on Tuesday, September 28th from 6:30 to 8pm. During the online event, workers will share their stories and testify about workplace safety issues in their respective industries and advocate for better enforcement priorities, as North Carolina ranks as the worst state for workers (Oxfam, 2021), to newly elected NC Labor Commissioner Josh Dobson, who will be in attendance to hear their concerns. The town hall will be hosted virtually on Zoom and streamed live on Facebook.

“Over the past 18 months, nurses and other health care workers have been exposed to and infected with Covid-19 because employers like HCA’s Mission Hospital in Asheville have failed to protect us,” says Hannah Drummond, an Emergency Room RN and member of National Nurses United at Mission Hospital in Asheville.

“Since COVID began, we've watched companies cut corners with safety and risk workers' lives. I've had to go on strike with my coworkers three times in the last year, because we've had COVID outbreaks in our store and our employer has done very little to protect us. We've filed safety complaints with the state, but nothing has been done," said Jamila Allen, a Durham fast food worker at Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers.
