Help Organize the South at "Poultry Workers Appreciation Day"

UFCW Local 1208, which represents workers at Smithfield Foods in Tarheel, NC has started a campaign with the 2000 workers at the Mountaire Poultry Plant in Lumber Bridge, NC. These hard workers are working below poverty at an average of $9.50 an hour and a top pay of $10.25 an hour. Mountaire Poultry workers are often injured on the job and tossed to the side not knowing they have rights.

Already over 400 workers at Mountaire Poultry have signed union cards, and the employer has begun its campaign of fear and intimidation - hauling workers into one-on-one meetings with human resources and forcing others to watch anti-union propaganda videos.

"These workers need our support," says Local 1208 president Keith Ludlum.

"We need to show union strength for these employees and their families. "On Wednesday February 26, 2014 we will be calling all Brothers and Sisters to join us at a 'Poultry Workers Appreciation Day' event in front of the Mountaire Poultry Plant." -- Keith Ludlum
