Supporters to rally and canvass for reform on Saturday (10/5)

The time for immigration reform with a real path to citizenship is now. That's why folks who believe that new immigrants who work hard, contribute to their communities, and aspire to be Americans should get their chance at citizenship will rally in cities across North Carolina this Saturday. It's part of what organizers are calling the National Day for Dignity and Respect.

What: Rally and canvass for immigration reform
Who: Working America, North Carolina State AFL-CIO, Teamster Local 391, State Employees Association of NC, SEIU, Guilford County NAACP
When: Saturday, Oct. 5, 10–10:30 a.m. rally followed by 11 a.m.–2 p.m. door canvass, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. canvass
Where: New Light Baptist Church, 1105 Willow Road, Greensboro, NC 27401

Hardworking immigrant families came to this country for the promise of freedom and the opportunity to provide a better life for their children - even if it meant uprooting their families to do it. We’re all the better for their contributions to our communities. And to fully contribute, the 11 million immigrants we call neighbors and friends must have a viable path to citizenship.

But it’s an impossible process for aspiring citizens to take the next step. The current, crazy regulations mean there’s no line to get into to become a citizen. Americans deserve better than that. We all deserve a process that works for working people, not a broken system that only serves to fatten corporate profits by undermining workers' wages, health, and safety on the job.
