Weekly nonviolent protests of the flood of right-wing legislation coming out of our out-of-control state legislature resumes this coming Monday, June 3rd for what organizers hope will be the biggest “Moral Monday”, yet.
Update: Despite your calls and our lobbying against it, HB 677 did pass the state house on Monday night. The bill now moves to the state senate.
Each Monday evening, the North Carolina Chapter of the NAACP and other progressive groups are staging actions at the North Carolina General Assembly to protest attacks on workers’ rights and other regressive legislation.

For the first time in 140 years, the Republican Party is in charge of redistricting in North Carolina. Naturally, Republican politicians, who won their majorities in the 2010 election using the current district maps, are using their power to make sure they stay in power.
North Carolina’s revenue problems will get worse thanks to a bill rushed through the Republican-led General Assembly at the end of session.
As you know, it was a new world at the legislature – the first time in over a century that the Republicans were in control of both chambers, and they were in control by comfortable margins in each. And as one newspaper put it: “The GOP leadership [was] on an ideological search-and-destroy mission to erase years of progress in education, elections, public health, the courts, environmental protections, consumer protections, and, well, you name it.”
