State Employees Association of NC Joins SEIU
The State Employees Association of North Carolina (SEANC) voted at it’s annual convention May 3 to affiliate with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). With 55,000 members, SEANC was the largest independent public employee association in the United States not affiliated with a union.
“This vote marks the largest union victory ever for working people across the South — especially in North Carolina, which previously had the lowest rate of unionization in the country,” said SEANC Executive Director Dana Cope.
SEANC now becomes SEIU Local 2008.
Has it ever occurred to NC state officials that if they volunteer and take a pay salary cut to help the state deficit, the WORKING state employees would gladly cope with a salary cut without being upset? There is a bigger hardship to a man trying to make a living making $20,000 a year than a man making $100,000.
As a NC state employee, I was offered to join SEANC. It was suppose to be a organization to help state employees with their lives (discount coupons, family help) and represent us to the state legislature with work related issues. It was a quasi-labor organization without teeth. Now its part of a dirty political driven union. http://theunionnews.blogspot.com/2008/10/npr-exposes-acorn-seiu-connection.html.
I will have no part in this catastrophe. I will not help support a corrupt organization, SEIU , that uses strong arm tatics to get their way.
Also since the SEIU helped alot of the Democratic run NC state legislature (http://www.capitol-monitor.org/non-profit-profiles/seancseiu-packs-political-powe.php) and Democratic Govenor Perdue (http://www.seiu.org/a/madethedifference.php)…do any of you really believe that the SEIU will actually help with our wages or health care ? All they want is money from dues (that will be increased over time) or donations and your political votes. Their “new” 55,000 members from NC only means more political power (money) going into their coffers. We don’t need this union dirtying up the this great state and it’s workers.
The only time SEIU will help is when the govenor is up for re-election and then it will be a “win-win” situation for both the govenor (who will take full credit for “saving” the state employees wage and benifits) and the SEIU will take credit by bombarding members with pledge drives to help other members in other states (more dues). Can’t you see that the SEIU, Govenor Perdue, and the Democratic run state legislature is all in together just to control your lives? WAKE UP people and take back control of your own lives !!!
