We're gearing up for the next Justice & Smithfield demonstrations to be held simultaneously at Harris Teeter locations in North Carolina and neighboring states on Saturday, March 31, 2007. Download the turnout flyer for a complete list of locations and find a demonstration near you.

Harris Teeter continues to source its own branded bacon from the problematic Smithfield Packing plant in Tar Heel, NC, even as workers at the Tar Heel plant face regular abuse and harassment. You can help by printing out and signing the petition to demand that Harris Teeter stop selling bacon packaged with abuse.

  • Injuries have skyrocketed by 200% since 2003 due to fast line speeds and inadequate safety training
  • Smithfield uses threats and intimidation to suppress workers’ rights and has even used violence and false arrests in the past
  • Workers are treated as disposable with Smithfield routinely firing injured workers and denying legitimate workers’ compensation claims
  • Smithfield has stirred racial tensions among African-American and Latino workers in an effort to keep workers divided.
