CWA Local 3682 calls for info picket in Wake County

Citing a lack of progress during collective bargaining on key issues, CenturyLink workers in Wake and nearby counties, members of Communication Workers of America (CWA) Local 3682, have called for an informational picket outside company headquarters in Youngsville on Monday, December 8 from 6:30 to 8:30 AM.

With good jobs and retirement security for 175 workers on the line, this informational picket will offer an opportunity for you to show public support for workers’ efforts to win a fair contract - one that prevents the company from outsourcing jobs and cutting retirement benefits.

What: Picket for a fair contract from CenturyLink
When: Monday, December 8th from 6:30-8:30 a.m.
Where: CenturyLink H.Q., 14111 Capital Blvd., Youngsville, NC 27596

CenturyLink is the third largest telecommunications provider in the United States after AT&T and Verizon, having recently expanded with the acquisition of Qwest to now serve customers in 36 states, and it has been revenue positive for two years running.

CenturyLink workers in Wake and surrounding counties deliver quality services to the public - and profits to their employer - day and night, no matter the weather, even when the power is out - but they do so for 34 percent lower pay and fewer benefits than CenturyLink has agreed to pay workers covered by union contracts elsewhere.

Instead of bargaining in good faith, CenturyLink now proposes to contract out jobs and to freeze workers’ pensions. CenturyLink workers in North Carolina, who have continued working under an expired contract since November of this year, only ask that the company bargain a fair contract with the workers who have made the company’s growth and success possible.

Show your support for workers fighting to keep good jobs in North Carolina. For more information, contact Brian Sawyer, Local 3682 president, at 919-426-8282.
