'Obamacare' a major tax CUT for the middle class

GOP talking points notwithstanding

Last week the United States Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act (aka 'Obamacare'), specifically the individual mandate that all able Americans purchase health insurance. Writing for the majority, Chief Justice John Roberts said the mandate is a constitutional application of Congress' taxing authority.

Predictably, presumed Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney - who signed into law the nation's first individual mandate as governor of Massachusetts - joined Washington, DC Republicans to wrongly claim that 'Obamacare' is a tax hike on middle class families - a claim not supported by the facts, as Think Progress notes:

But instead of being a tax increase, Obamacare will provide millions of families with large tax credits to make health care more affordable. Only about 1 percent of Americans who could afford health care but don’t buy coverage would have to pay the tax, and the penalty would only be an average of $600. The Center for American Progress shows how Obamacare is actually a major tax cut for many families.

Think Progress produced a handy info-graphic explaining why 'Obamacare' is a huge TAX CUT for the middle class. Check it out:
