Statement by NC AFL-CIO President MaryBe McMillan on Historic Results of AFL-CIO Leadership Election Today

"Today's election signals a commitment from the AFL-CIO that our leaders should look more like our membership."

(RALEIGH) — "While the circumstances of today's election are heartbreaking, the results are historic—the AFL-CIO has its first female president and first Black secretary-treasurer. Our movement has far too few female leaders or leaders of color. Today's election signals a commitment from the AFL-CIO that our leaders should look more like our membership. I congratulate President Shuler and Secretary-Treasurer Redmond and look forward to working with them to champion economic and racial justice for all working people."
