Union launches campaign for a raise

Service sector workers aren't the only ones organizing to raise wages.

This week the Raleigh Police Protective Association (RPPA), a division of Teamsters Local 391, launched a campaign for a raise of their own. RPD officers are the lowest paid in Wake County law enforcement and among the lowest paid in the country, starting at just $34k/yr - lower than cities of a similar size such as Atlanta, Miami, or Charlotte.

"Not only are we having a tough time recruiting police officers to come and work in Raleigh, we are having a difficult time retaining our officers," said RPPA president and RPD detective, Matthew Cooper.
