Statement by NC State AFL-CIO President MaryBe McMillan on the Resounding Union Election Victory of Mission Hospital Nurses

We congratulate the nurses at Mission Hospital in Asheville on winning their union with National Nurses United by an over two-to-one margin!

Nurses have been working tirelessly to take care of patients during this pandemic, often doing so without proper protection or enough staff support. Nurses and patients deserve better, and thanks to the courageous Mission nurses who joined together to organize and win a collective voice on the job, they will get it.

The resounding victory at Mission is one of the largest union wins in recent years, and it is a sign of victories to come for working people who are tired of being taken for granted, especially in the South. We expect more workers will choose to stand up and join together because “Union Yes" means dignity and respect on the job.
