President: Chris Barrett, IAMAW 1725 

The Charlotte-Metrolina Labor Council’s President Chris Barrett is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He and his family relocated to Fort Mill, South Carolina, when he was 9 years old. A devoted husband to his late wife and father to his stepson, President Barrett has shaped the past quarter century of his working life to represent his core values of family, unity, and advocating for a more equitable future for all people. 

President Barrett is in his 25th year working at Charlotte-Douglass International Airport, and, following in the footsteps of his union card-holding grandfather, has enjoyed the privilege of 18 years of union membership through the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) Local 1725.  During his tenure with IAM 1725, President Barrett has held multiple leadership roles, including his current role as a Shop Steward and his past roles as President and Vice President.  

A true Champion of Labor and humanitarian, President Barrett also serves as the President of the Catawba chapter of the A. Philip Randolph Institute, is the Second Vice President of the North Carolina Machinists and was the chairman of the Guide Dogs of America IAM. President Barrett labors tirelessly to empower all working people, regardless of the job that they do, to step up, speak up, and be the change we need to secure a better, brighter future.
