Join the call at "Move to Amend" tour stops in N.C.

This week California became the sixth state to call for a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court's controversial 2010 ruling in Citizens United v. FEC, which lifted the ban on unlimited corporate spending to buy elections. Also this week, the City of Raleigh joined 274 other municipalities across the United States to approve resolutions against Citizens United.

Earlier this year the AFL-CIO came out strong against Citizens United. We are a member of the Move to Amend coalition, which is fighting to restore our democracy to real, flesh and blood Americans - not corporations - and end corporate domination of the electoral process.

Next week, North Carolinians will get a chance to hear from the experts about what is being done and what you can do to advance the cause of overturning Citizens United at one of several stops on Move to Amend's "Barnstorming Tour", July 7-11.

What: Barnstorming Tour against Citizens United
When: July 7-11 (times vary)
Where: Asheville, Fayetteville, Greenville, and Raleigh

People and organizations from all 50 states and from all walks of life are standing up and building a movement to free our democracy from corporate rule.

In the aftermath of the Citizens United v. FEC Supreme Court ruling, the Move To Amend Coalition is calling for an amendment to the United States Constitution to unequivocally state that inalienable rights belong to human beings only, and that money is not a form of protected free speech under the First Amendment and can be regulated in political campaigns.

That's why our friends at Democracy North Carolina and NC Voters for Clean Elections are co-sponsoring Move To Amend’s national “Barnstorming Tour” in cities across North Carolina July 7-11.

Move to Amend executive committee members David Cobb, attorney and lifelong activist, and George Friday, anti-oppression trainer and community organizer, will be touring North Carolina to build connections, inspire activism, and reveal the origins of corporate power in America.

George and David's presentations are part history lesson and part heart-felt call-to-action! "Challenging Corporate Rule & Creating Democracy" aims to help local folks understand how they can work to abolish corporate personhood and establish a government of, by, and for the people.
