99% MOVEMENT MOBILIZES FOR A FOCUS ON JOBS CRISIS

Workers will demonstrate and march to demand politicians invest in rebuilding America beginning at 4pm Thursday, November 17, 2011

Raleigh, N.C. – On November 17, two months after Occupy Wall Street began, members of the 99% movement will have a message for our politicians: “Occupy the jobs crisis!” From 4 to 5pm, we will protest around the Capital Blvd Bridge over Peace Street in Raleigh to call attention to the fact that America wants to work, and America has work that needs doing. Following the demonstration at 5 o’clock, we will march to the State Capitol.

Recently, D.O.T. announced plans to replace the Capital Blvd Bridge by the year 2016. It’s the kind of infrastructure project that needs doing all across this country to quickly generate hundreds of thousands of construction jobs – not to mention the millions more American workers, small business owners, and state and local governments who would directly benefit from the increased economic activity and improved infrastructure.

Unfortunately, some Washington politicians are so occupied with running out the clock on the Obama presidency that they seem determined to obstruct every effort at enacting solutions to our jobs crisis.

To protect themselves and their backers in the 1% from having to pay a pittance more in taxes, millionaires in Congress have repeatedly killed the kind of bold, jobs-creating initiatives our economy and the American people desperately need.

America wants to work! Fixing our crumbling schools, roads, rails, and airports is the place to start. But that can’t happen until politicians get serious about what matters: the JOBS CRISIS! The other 99% of us are losing patience.

What: Occupy the Jobs Crisis demonstration and March of the 99%

When: Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 demonstration at 4pm; March at 5pm.

Where: Capital Blvd bridge, 401 W. Peace St, Raleigh, NC

Why: It’s time for our politicians to occupy themselves with fixing our jobs crisis as much as they have been occupied with protecting their backers in the 1%.

Who: AFL-CIO, MoveOn.org, Occupy Raleigh, Occupy NCSU, and others.
