“So much has changed leading up to this election season and voters need to know what the new rules are,” said Working America State Director Carolyn Smith. “For example, voters do not need to show identification this year, but they do need to vote in their assigned precinct in order for their vote to count. We are on a mission to educate as many people as possible leading up to Election Day.”

The keynote speaker is Linda Sutton from Democracy North Carolina. Other speakers include a University of North Carolina Greensboro student and a Working America member.

Following the speeches, students and activists will be invited to register to vote, sign voter pledge cards, and write postcards to other North Carolinians encouraging them to vote. There will also be a “pie-throw at voter suppression” event, featuring an chance for students to throw pies at a banner listing all the voter suppression law currently on the books.

“Higher turnouts in this year’s election will mean better policies for working families,” said Working America member Barbara Council.
