Town hall opportunity to take Tillis to task

RSVP to Rob Thompson ([email protected]) at Together NC if you plan to attend this town hall meeting.

Since the state legislature adjourned last summer, Thom Tillis has been touring North Carolina on the tax-payers' dime to prepare for a 2014 U.S. Senate campaign let the him spin falsehoods about his disastrous 2011 state budget. Among Tillis' talking points have been these choice highlights:

  • It’s the fault of county superintendents that nearly 1800 teachers and teacher assistants have been fired, not the legislators who cut $459 million out of the K-12 budget.
  • The state should start to drug test state employees.
  • We should “divide and conquer” those receiving public assistance.

On Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 5 pm, Speaker Tillis will bring this message to the Triangle when he holds a town hall in Morrisville. We think you know better, and we want you there to let him have it!

What: Tillis Town Hall
When: Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 5pm
Where: Morrisville Fire Station #1, 200 Town Hall Drive, Morrisville, NC 27560
Why: We need you there to ask Tillis the tough questions he doesn't want to answer!

We need to hold Speaker Tillis accountable for this year’s budget cuts and ask tough questions about what his plan is to fix the problems. At his town hall in Clayton earlier this year, Tillis admitted of his tenure as Speaker of the House that "maybe mistakes were made". Which mistakes might those be?

  • Does Tillis think the 30,152 workers who will lose their jobs this fiscal year because of his budget is a mistake?
  • Was it a mistake to cut $700 million from the state Medicaid budget knowing it would cost North Carolina an additional $1.4 billion in federal matching funds and devastate a program that serves 1.9 million North Carolinians?
  • Has Tillis had a change of heart about providing cover for corporate tax deadbeats, a move that will cost North Carolina over $100 million a year?

If you plan to attend and would like suggestions about questions to ask Tillis or to get some tips on getting your voice heard during the town hall, email our friend at Together NC, co-coordinator Rob Thompson at [email protected].
