MaryBe McMillan, the first woman elected President of the North Carolina State AFL-CIO, was one of the speakers at the “Women’s Rally on Raleigh,” January 20, 2018 in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she delivered the following poem.
Today, we commemorate the Women’s March at the “Rally on Raleigh” and vow our continuing solidarity. We dare not linger long in celebration. History is holding up a mirror that we cannot evade.
Join us Saturday, January 20th in Raleigh to mark the one year anniversary of the Women’s March. To show our love for the resistance, the North Carolina AFL-CIO plans to operate a “Hug-A-Thug” booth while tabling at the Women’s Rally on Raleigh, and we’re looking to recruit a few good union members as huggers!
The North Carolina State AFL-CIO is the largest association of local unions and union councils in North Carolina, representing over one-hundred and forty-thousand union members, fighting for good jobs, safe workplaces, workers’ rights, consumer protections, and quality public services on behalf of ALL working people.
