NC State AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer MaryBe McMillan Responds to Sen. Burr and Gov. McCrory’s Continued Support of Donald Trump’s Candidacy

“Continuing to support Trump’s bid for the presidency is an insult to every decent North Carolinian they represent.”

RALEIGH, NC (Oct. 10, 2016) – The North Carolina State AFL-CIO released the following statement from Secretary-Treasurer MaryBe McMillan on Senator Richard Burr and Governor Pat McCrory’s continued support for Donald Trump in light of revelations last Friday that the Republican nominee for President has boasted about committing sexual assault:

That Sen. Richard Burr and Gov. Pat McCrory have condemned Donald Trump’s behavior as “completely unacceptable” and “disgusting” while continuing to support Trump’s bid for the presidency is an insult not only to working women but to every decent North Carolinian they represent.

Actions speak louder than words, and Sen. Burr and Gov. McCrory need to do more than simply issue a statement. Both Sen. Burr and Gov. McCrory should join the growing number of Republican leaders who are now publicly refusing to vote for Donald Trump.

Americans deserve better than Donald Trump, and we in North Carolina deserve better than elected officials like Richard Burr and Pat McCrory who lack the courage or character to take a principled stand against misogyny and sexual assault.
