Let's make Monday, June 24th the day the halls of the North Carolina legislative building echoed with the singing of "Solidarity Forever!" for on this last Moral Monday in June our union will make us strong! WEAR UNION SHIRTS!

Remember that you do not have to take part in civil disobedience, but your presence and passion and determination to wake the state and the nation to what's happening in North Carolina - that alone will mean the world to those who do make that choice and to everyone else who will be there in support. If you are at all able, join us in making Monday moral and union strong!

ABC 11 covered a press conference on Friday where MaryBe McMillan said, "the North Carolina State AFL-CIO is making a major push to turn out our members because we believe it is critical that workers voices are heard."

"The list of injustices against workers is long, gutting protections in the state personnel act, endangering teacher tenure, denying dues deductions to municipal employees."

Video from the press conference:

The Fayetteville Observer posted an excellent oped, "Stand  with Moral Monday" by Denny Shaffer, a member of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine - North Carolina's highest honor for public service.

In making the case for others to show solidarity with Moral Monday protesters, Shaffer lists some points from the long list of injustices to come out of this immoral state legislature, including cuts to unemployment benefits, ending the estate tax to help just 23 mega-millionaire families while raising taxes on the working poor by repealing the Earned Income Tax Credit, and others. Then he closed his column this way:

Forgive me, if you will, if I point out a few words to them from my family Bible, "Shame on you! You who make unjust laws and publish burdensome decrees, depriving the poor of justice, robbing the weakest of my people of their rights." Isaiah 10:1

Watch the video from Moral Monday 7, "Change is Coming!"

Speaking last week, Rev. William Barber declared that while the immoral majority of our state legislature have the votes for today, a change is coming. "Jim Crow had votes for a season," said Barber in the video recap from Moral Monday 8, but then that changed.

Politics change. Votes change. Attitudes change. Seasons change.

When people stand up, history can change.

If we stand our ground, there's a change coming!

If we stand on our constitution, there's a change coming!

If we stand on the word of God, there's a change coming!

When you fight for the poor, there's a change coming!

When you fight for the sick, there's a change coming!

When you fight for the weak, there's a change coming!

When you fight for children, there's a change coming!

When you fight for the least of these, there's a change coming!

There IS a CHANGE COMING!
