An official with U.S. Treasury will be in Charlotte next Tuesday to talk about programs the Obama Administration hopes will help homeowners underwater on their mortgages and who are trying to avoid foreclosure.

The Treasury is responsible for the design and implementation of the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP), and it will be seeking public comment next week. Public input and recommendations from panelists will be used by treasury in the ongoing design and management of the HAMP program.

This public meeting will include presentations from state agencies, academics, counselors, client, advocates and loan servicers on foreclosures and loan modifications. Participating groups include:

  • North Carolina Banking Commission
  • North Carolina Housing Finance Agency
  • UNC Chapel Hill Center for Community Capital
  • Brunswick Housing Opportunities
  • Community Reinvestment Association of North Carolina
  • Center for Responsible Lending
  • Wachovia (a WellsFargo company)

The agenda for the public meeting includes two panels:
