Nationwide solidarity events to coincide with anniversary of MLK, Jr assassination
On April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr returned to Memphis, TN to rally support for striking city sanitation workers when he was assassinated.
On April 4, 2011, union members and labor and civil rights activists will hold events across the country to remind each other and the nation that "We Are One".
This is a call to mark April 4 on your calendar as a day of solidarity action. Already, an event is being planned in Asheville. Details about other 4/4 events in North Carolina are still being worked out. Check back here this time next week for more information.

Keep in mind that these events don't have to be big rallies or press conferences. A small candle light vigil, passing out flyers at the plant gate, holding an open-mic night at your neighborhood coffee shop or favorite watering hole - any of these would work.
The important thing is that on April 4, 2011, we as workers and working families come together and say, "We are one people, and we are all in this together."
