Hundreds of good union jobs are on the line in Eden, NC

Community members and state and local politicians will rally 3 PM Tuesday in Eden at an event being organized by Teamsters Local 391 to support hundreds of MillerCoors workers facing the loss of good union jobs in their small, mostly rural town.

What: Emergency rally to support MillerCoors workers facing layoffs
When: Tuesday, December 15 at 3:00 PM
Where: MillerCoors, 863 E Meadow Rd, Eden, NC

Signs will be provided.

In September, MillerCoors announced it plans to close its brewery in Eden after 37 years, laying off 520 workers at Rockingham County's third largest private employer, and moving most of the production to a newer (and non-union) plant in Virginia.

"We're fighting for our jobs," says Vernon Gammon, secretary-treasurer for Local 391, which represents workers at the facility where, thanks to a collective bargaining agreement renewed earlier this year, they earn family-sustaining wages and benefits in a county with the highest unemployment rate in the Piedmont Triad. "We want MillerCoors to just be honest with its workers."

Earlier this month, a group of more than 100 state lawmakers signed a letter by Senate President Phil Berger, who is from Eden, demanding answers from MillerCoors about why it chose to close one of its top-producing breweries after investing millions of dollars upgrading the facility the company itself has named "Brewery of the Year" three out of the last five years.
