Support Health Care for America NowPrivate insurer is a roadblock to reform

Preferring profits over people, Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC has positioned itself at the forefront of efforts to defeat our movement for health care reform in the United States. Without reform, BCBSNC and other private insurers will maintain their stranglehold on the provision of health services in this country. Blue Cross alone has a 72.5 percent market share in North Carolina.

Recently, Senator Hagan declared herself on the side of comprehensive health reform, which includes a public option. While this was an important step forward for reform, we cannot declare victory. There is more to be done, and each of us must continue to raise our voices and make ourselves heard - by members of Congress and the health care industry.

Protest planned for tomorrow outside BCBSNC headquarters

We will demand that Blue Cross put North Carolina citizens first instead of fighting a public health care option that will provide affordability, choice and competition.
