Doing well by playing for a cause

Heather McLaughlin, consultant for the NC chapter of the Alliance for Retired Americans, reports on the success of their first-ever golf fundraiser:

The North Carolina Alliance for Retired Americans (NCARA) is pleased to announce the success of our 1st Annual Golf Tournament!

The NCARA's golf tournament was held on Friday, June 8, 2012, at Oak Valley golf course in Clemmons, North Carolina. It began with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Our aim was to raise funds for the YMCA of the Triangle and for the Alliance's ongoing programs to aid seniors here in North Carolina.

The NCARA  -  an affiliate of the National Alliance for Retired Americans - is a statewide non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization with over 35,000 members and 16 affiliates. The NCARA exists for educating and informing its membership, the public, and our elected officials about issues that affect the well-being of retirees and senior citizens, so that they may all work towards advancing and achieving just and fair living conditions for retirees and senior citizens within the state.

Since its start in 2001, the NCARA has used a three-pronged approach of education, mobilization, and activism to raise awareness and encourage self-advocacy by seniors on such issues as quality, affordable health care, long-term care, and income security - including guaranteed Social Security benefits, Medicare, and Medicaid.
