“Women’s Rally on Raleigh” set for January 20th
Join us Saturday, January 20th in Raleigh to mark the one year anniversary of the Women’s March. To show our love for the resistance, the North Carolina AFL-CIO plans to operate a “Hug-A-Thug” booth while tabling at the Women’s Rally on Raleigh, and we’re looking to recruit a few good union members as huggers!

Newly installed National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) General Counsel (and Trump appointee), Peter Robb, is seeking the reversal of all pro-worker rulings issued during the Obama Administration. "Rulings on: discrimination against union workers during bargaining; holding joint employers—a corporate headquarters and its local franchise-holders—responsible for obeying, or breaking, labor law; use of company e-mail systems to announce union meetings." Union leaders are pledging to make tax cuts for the rich a campaign issue in November. "Polls show the law, which gives more than 80 percent of its benefits to the rich and businesses, and more than 60 percent to the top 1 percent of the country, is wildly unpopular." [People's World]
Take Action
The North Carolina AFL-CIO is co-sponsoring a Fair Courts Day of Action on January 10th. When lawmakers return to Raleigh next Wednesday to consider major changes to our judicial system — from gerrymandering judicial maps, to slashing judicial terms, to eliminating judicial elections altogether — we'll come together, beginning at 11 a.m., to fight back.
- At 11 a.m. on Bicentennial Plaza (1 E. Edenton St, Raleigh, across from the legislative building) we’re holding a coalition media event meant to expose the latest legislative attacks on our state's courts.
- At noon, inside the N.C. General Assembly (16 W Jones St., Raleigh), experts will lead a lunchtime teach-in on how legislative leaders' back-door schemes could impact your ability to vote for judges, and discuss ways you can show your opposition. A box lunch will be provided for participants.
- After, you'll have the opportunity to engage your lawmakers, impact the legislative process, and rally throughout the afternoon until 5 p.m. alongside other North Carolinians who care about fair courts in 2018.
