The 2014 election resulted in a Republican takeover of the U.S. Senate and continued Republican super-majorities in the North Carolina General Assembly. In light of the results of the 2014 election, the next LLC will be more important than ever. Being informed, organized, and engaged with our allies and our members is the only way we can overcome what’s coming.
Union members – active and retired – should make plans now to attend the LLC in February (as well as local legislative meetings in January) where we will discuss how to get and keep issues important to working families on the agenda. As ever, our priorities will include creating jobs, protecting our workers’ compensation and unemployment insurance systems, protecting the right of all children to receive a sound education, fighting major cuts in essential services, and protecting your right to a safe and healthy workplace.
Make no mistake about it – advocates for workers in the next legislative session face an uphill battle. Our strength will come from our ability to mobilize our members around our issues and communicate a clear commitment to fight for all workers. That is why it is so important you and your members show up in big numbers to the 2015 LLC in February.
