In Raleigh

The Wake County Democratic Party will host its 2010 Labor Day Rally and picnic on Labor Day from noon until 3pm at the Raleigh Elks Lodge.

NC Secretary of State and Democratic U.S. Sendate candidate, Elaine Marshall, will be the keynote speaker. Sgt. Rick Armstrong of Raleigh PD and Teamsters 391, will be a featured speaker. There will be a peformance by the MLK Childrens Choir and food will be provided by Pit BBQ.

In Charlotte

The Charlotte Labor Day Parade Committeeand the Southern Piedmont Central Labor Council are proud to bring you the 2010 Charlotte Labor Day Parade beginning on Monday, September 6 at 11am. The parade starts at the Hal Marshall Center and continues down Tryon to 3rd St. The annual parade is one of the largest Labor Day parades in the Southeast.

This year's theme is "An Old Fashioned Parade: Labor Union Made" in reference to the significant strides made by labor unions throughout history says CLDPC Chair, Ben Lee:

"Since its inception 116 years ago, Labor Day has stood to highlight labor unions' success in fighting for member’s interests with respect to wages, benefits, and working conditions. Always remember those who fought, suffered, and died for our rights as workers - including the 40 hour work week, the weekend, Social Security, and health care. Please never take it for granted."

What: 12th Annual Charlotte Labor Day Parade
When: Monday (9/6) beginning at 11:00 am
Where: Starting outside Hal Marshall Center, 700 North Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28202 and ending at the intersection of Tryon and 3rd St.

In Canton

The oldest Labor Day parade tradition in the South continues with the 104th Labor Day Parade in Canton, NC on Monday, September 6 at 10am. Interested union members (families and friends, included) can meet and carpool from the CWA Union Hall in Asheville to the USW 507 Union Hall in Canton. Bring your union banners and signs to walk behind at the parade!

What: 104th Annual Canton Labor Day Parade
When: Monday (9/6) beginning at 10:00 am
Where:Main Street in downtown Canton, NC. A carpool from the CWA 3601 hall, 210 Haywood Rd, Asheville, NC 28806 will leave at 8:00 am sharp!

Canton pulls out all the stops for its Labor Day Celebration Weekend. There will be tons of food, many live bands, vendors, and fun activities for the whole family - in addition to the parade itself. Click here for a full list of events, which began yesterday (9/2) and run through Labor Day.
