Greensboro, Durham, and elsewhere

Supporters of Walmart workers, who are standing up to live better - fighting for $15 an hour and full-time hours from a company that profits $18.25 MILLION every minute off their labor, will rally nationwide next week, including here in North Carolina, with planned events on Monday in Greensboro and on Black Friday in Durham - and beyond.

Here's what you need to know.

Monday (11/24) in Greensboro

Join us Monday in Greensboro for an hour of upbeat protest as we do our part to help create a better world for ALL workers. We're standing up to the "Walmart economy" that keeps wages low and benefits scarce. Let us know you'll be there --> http://bit.ly/1AjxBso

More information about this event from Working America:

Working America activists, in solidarity with OUR Walmart and a nationwide movement for better working conditions for Walmart workers, will come together Monday, Nov. 24th to call for $15 per hour and increased opportunities for full-time work for Walmart employees. In protest of Walmart's ongoing retaliation against its workers who speak out for  better pay, improved working conditions, fair schedules, full-time work, affordable healthcare, and respect at work, Walmart employees across the nation are refusing to work on Black Friday.

Walmart brings in billions in annual profit and yet the majority of Walmart workers make less than $25,000 per year. Low wages cause many families to use government assistance and pinch pennies to make ends meet.

“We need to do something to help [Walmart workers] get more money,” said Working America member Jennifer Thompson. “I think that they deserve more pay. Walmart, among others, should be ashamed of themselves and that they make as much money as they do and pay their employees so little.”

The event comes on the heels of OUR Walmart’s first sit-in protests in Los Angeles on November 13. Members of the community, led by Working America the community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, will stand together with Walmart employees as they fight for their right to a living wage, full-time work, and better working conditions.

Everywhere else

It couldn't be easier to show your support for Walmart workers on Black Friday because Walmart and Sam's Club locations are just about everywhere. Visit http://www.blackfridayprotests.org/ to find one near you. All you have to do is show up at a Walmart / Sam's Club near you with a protest sign. Put #WalmartStrikers on your sign, take a selfie holding your sign in front of Walmart, and tweet and share that picture on Facebook using the same hashtag - #WalmartStrikers. Click here for more ideas and downloadable material you can use for your solidarity action! The beauty of these actions is they don't have to be huge - BUT Walmart headquarters require store managers to report every action, no matter how small. Join us wherever you are next week to send a message to Walmart and the Walton Family which controls it that greed is still a sin, and they are no longer going to get a pass from you for profiting off the poverty of Walmart workers.
