HCAN members and supporters of health care reform took a bus up to Washington D.C. to meet with Senator Hagan last week. The Senator joked that she felt right at home seeing so many North Carolinian faces in D.C. During her short speech, she addressed the issue of health care reform.

“I think that what you’re here for is the most important thing going on in our country today. The United States needs to figure out a way to bring affordable health care to every American. We need a system in which people will pre-existing conditions are able to qualify for health insurance, or buy a policy that they can afford,” said Senator Hagan.

Hagan is a member of the Health Education Labor and Pensions Committee. As such, she is a critical component to health care reform. “I’ve been working day in and day out to pass comprehensive health care reform,” said Senator Hagan. “We have 10 billion dollars set aside for prevention and wellness. But we in America have to do a better job of taking care of ourselves and passing good habits onto our children, such as eating right, exercising, and not smoking.”

Senator Hagan emphasized the need for workforce coverage and having positions available to treat all the people currently uninsured. She also committed to reducing fraud and abuse in the system.

“I know how important health care reform is to you because just all of you being here speaks volumes,” said Senator Hagan. “I will work for better health coverage, affordability, and accessibility to make sure you get the treatment you need.”

I was at the event in the video shown above. I think the headline on your story is a little bit misleading. Sen. Hagan failed to endorse a strong public health care option and danced around the issue when asked directly about it. Behinds the scenes reports indicate she is actually trying to water down or kill a strong public health care option. A rally is being organized at Senator Hagan’s office in Greensboro on Thursday, July 9th at noon in support of a strong public health care option. I hope that union members in the Greensboro area who support a strong public option will stop her office on their lunch break to show their support. Right now there is a struggle going on between the corporate lobbyists and ordinary folks for Senator Hagan’s vote. Please help tip the balance toward ordinary folks. Thanks.

We are pleased that the HELP Committee has released a plan that includes a strong public option and that Senator Hagan has since made clear her support for the plan. But that doesn’t mean we can let off on the pressure. We will continue to make phone calls and send letters to Hagan until we have real health care reform in the USA.

I’m one of those ‘ordinary folks’ you guys like to cite (I don’t work in healthcare, lawyering, pharmaceuticals, insurance or politics), and yet I utterly oppose having my children

[1] crushed by TRILLIONS in brand-new debt (borrowed from our freedom-loving buddies, the Chinese),
[2] fund millions more life-style-rewarding abortions,
[3] turn over control of every single medical decision to bean-counters in Washington DC,
[4] be forced to euthanize ME because I don’t fit the politically-correct definition of somebody deemed worthy to live any longer.

Has anybody noticed the steady stream of Canadians heading south for medical procedures that they can’t get at all (or can’t get before they die)? Doesn’t it bother you that not one single member of Congress or the administration has eagerly declared their zeal for joining the system being proposed? Doesn’t it bother you that every member of Congress to whom the question is directly put has found a way to not answer it?

The constituents for this ‘reform’ are just looking for their next meal, like piglets sucking at the hind tit of a dying pig. Like socialism on display everywhere on Earth that it has been tried, this plan will permanently enslave every American to the whims of government, standardize the lowest common denominator of medical mediocrity and bankrupt the whole country in the process. Our enemies need not lift a finger.

This plan will surely, however, multiply the ranks of the helpless, dependent sheeple who form the essential constituency of the Democratic Socialists of America, otherwise known as the the President’s party. It will keep them in power for generations to come, and THAT is why this bill must be passed by hook (“we’ll pay for your abortions!”) or by crook (3am secret amendments to a 1000-page bill).

I truly feel sorry for those of you who idealistically believe that politicians of either major political party are actually concerned for your health more than the length of their elected terms, the wonderful Senator Hagan included.
