North Carolina must do better

In 2011, according to preliminary numbers by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 78,000 cases of workplace injury or related illness. In that one year, 148 workers went to work for a paycheck but instead paid for doing so with their lives.

How many workplace fatalities or injuries and illnesses could have been prevented had unsafe working conditions been identified by a paid inspector?

With only 99 paid inspectors in North Carolina, it would take 59 years to inspect each workplace just once.
